SPAIN-IBERIAN HOLIDAY 14D

Day 1, Sunday: En route
Depart Canada by overnight flight to Madrid.
Day 2, Monday: Madrid
Arrival and transfer to your hotel. Free day to get acquainted with this vibrant city or to visit some museums (the Reina Sofia Contemporary and the Royal Palace are open Mondays). In the evening, enjoy an escorted panoramic tour of Illuminated Madrid, ending at the atmospheric Plaza Mayor, where you may choose to enjoy some of the delicious Tapas, served in the numerous “tavernas” in the area (Premium Package includes Tapas dinner).
Day 3, Tuesday: Madrid
Buffet breakfast. Morning panoramic city tour, including the Cibeles and Neptune fountains, the magnificent Alcala Gate, the Puerta del Sol and Plaza Oriente, as well as modern Madrid. Perhaps enjoy a typical Madrid lunch (Premium package includes this lunch). Free afternoon. Highly recommended is an optional excursion to ancient Imperial Toledo, where you can admire the magnificent cathedral and the art of El Greco (Premium Package includes Toledo excursion). Or, you may choose to visit (on your own) the famed Prado Museum or the excellent Thyssen-Bornemisza collection.
Day 4, Wednesday: Madrid-Segovia-Avila-Salamanca
Buffet breakfast and departure to medieval Segovia, with its 2000 year old Roman aqueduct. Continue to Avila, to admire its perfectly preserved 11th century walls before arriving in Salamanca, home to one of Europe’s oldest universities. Afternoon tour of the city’s historical center. In the evening, don’t fail to take a stroll through the lively and beautiful Plaza Mayor. (Premium package includes a typical dinner).
Day 5, Thursday: Salamanca-Zamora-Santiago de Compostela
Buffet breakfast. Head northwest, passing ancient Zamora to enter “Green Spain”, continuing to Galicia and the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela. Afternoon tour of this charming city, with the cathedral containing the tomb of St. James the Apostle. This evening, perhaps enjoy a local dinner with the typical “Queimada” flaming drink made from local spirits. (Premium package includes dinner).

Day 6, Friday: Santiago de Compostela-Guimaraes-Braga-Porto
Buffet breakfast. Head south, through the beautiful country of the “Rias Bajas”, passing Vigo en route to Portugal. Pause in the charming and historical villages of Braga and Guimaraes before arriving in beautiful Porto, at the mouth of the Douro River. (Premium package includes typical dinner).

Day 7, Saturday: Porto
Buffet breakfast. Morning tour of one of the richest and loveliest cities in Portugal, famed world wide for its magnificent port wines. A visit to one of the typical wineries is included. Afternoon free.

Day 8, Sunday: Porto-Coimbra-Fatima-Obidos-Lisbon
Buffet breakfast. Departure to the charming university town of Coimbra. Free time to explore its narrow streets before continuing to Fatima, a world famous shrine. Free time to visit the basilica if you wish, and lunch on your own. (Premium package includes lunch). Proceed to the quaint walled village of Obidos, for an opportunity to wander its attractive streets before continuing to Lisbon.

Day 9, Monday: Lisbon
Buffet breakfast. Morning tour of this city of seven hills (like Rome) on the banks of the Tagus River. Visit its monuments like the Tower of Belen and the Jeronimos Monastery. Afternoon free. Highly recommended is the optional excursion to the charming villages of Cascais (seaside) and Sintra (hill town). (Premium package includes this excursion). Tonight there is a wonderful optional opportunity to enjoy a wonderful show of Fado (Portuguese traditional) music with a delicious dinner. (Premium package includes Fado show and dinner).

Day 10, Tuesday: Lisbon-Merida-Seville
Buffet breakfast. Departure, through the region of the famous cork trees, back into Spain and the ancient Roman city of Merida. Free time for lunch on your own. (Premium package includes lunch). Afternoon visit to the spectacular Roman amphitheatre (still in use) before continuing to Seville.

Day 11, Wednesday: Seville
Buffet breakfast. Morning city tour including the Tower of Gold, Maria Luisa Park, the cathedral with its Giralda Tower (formerly a minaret), and the quaint Santa Cruz quarter. (Premium package includes lunch). Afternoon free for shopping or exploring this lovely Andalusian city, with orange tree-lined streets. This evening, don’t miss the optional opportunity to attend an exciting Flamenco show, with a glass of local wine. (Premium package includes Flamenco show with wine).

Day 12, Thursday: Seville-Cordoba-Granada
Buffet breakfast. Departure to Cordoba for a tour of the fantastic former Great Mosque, now a cathedral. Free time for lunch on your own and a little shopping. Continue to Granada. (Premium package includes dinner in Granada). Tonight perhaps take advantage of an optional opportunity to visit the atmospheric Albaicin quarter, to enjoy its typical music and a little wine. (Premium package includes Albaicin visit).

Day 13, Friday: Granada- Granada-Madrid
Buffet breakfast. Morning escorted tour of the fabulous Alhambra, once palace of the Moorish rulers, in the middle ages, of this part of Spain. Also marvel at the extensive and lush gardens of the Generalife. After the tour departure by coach across the fields of La Mancha to Madrid.

Day 14, Saturday: Madrid
Buffet breakfast. Pre-arranged transfer to Madrid airport at the proper time to check-in for your trans-Atlantic flight to your home city.
